Lelde Muehlenbachs, Artist

Artist Statement

Abstraction has lately replaced decades of my engagement with western Canadian landscape. Metamorphosis determines these images which begin incidentally with a vague thought, a memory, a sensation, a shape or a color. Often multiple layers of paint accrue until a picture seems ready to stand on its own, filled with force and worthy of contemplation. They are reverse excavations, mysterious in how they begin and where they end.

My background includes an undergraduate degree in Studio Art from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, and a MA in 19 and 20th c Art History from The University of Chicago. My home is Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
